Blowing the WhistleWhistle blowing stands out as a potentially powerful tool to help combat international corruption. Deciding to blow the whistle is not an easy choice. Employees may be torn between a sense of duty and their loyalty to colleagues - and afraid of the consequences. Evidence shows that whistle blowers can suffer a host of discriminatory consequences - from being isolated by colleagues and management, to losing their job. Trade unions are actively campaigning for improved protection for whistleblowers through provisions in international and national legislation, as well as through bargaining with individual companies.
