In 2005, an investigation was started into alleged bribery payments of between USD4.1 and USD5.4 million made by the Swedish company Skanska to Argentinian public officials in relation to a project to extend the national gas distribution network. The contract was awarded in 2005.The allegations have also been investigated by the tax evasion authorities.

Skanska admitted, during an internal audit, to paying undue commissions. It is also alleged to have used an Argentinian ghost company, Infinity Group, to inflate the accounts and hide the bribes.

The court case started in Buenos Aires on the 11th April 2008. However it has since stalled as it has been passed from judge to judge.The current president of Argentina is the wife of the former president at the time the contract was awarded. Additionally, in June 2008, a judge declared a recording of a conversation between two Skanska managers discussing the bribery, obtained by phone tapping unsubmissable.
