In January 2007, Guinea's trade unions called a national strike to protest at what they said was President Lansana Conte's interference in the justice system. The unions called the action after President Lansana Conte personally intervened to release two of his allies in jail on corruption charges.

Radiatou Sehra Diallo, General Secretary of the National Confederation of Guinean Workers, said they are fighting against corruption because it is important that people who steal from the government get punished. Union leaders declared that they will carry on their action until the two are back in prison.
